Jasper Newton Daniel (more commonly known as Jack) introduced the world Old No. 7, his signature charcoal-mellowed Tennessee whiskey and this way Jack Daniel’s was born in 1864.

It was after 4 owners, that in 1988 (in the Modern Era of the brand’s history), Jimmy Bedford allied this famous whiskey to the BBQ culture, holding the 1st annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational Barbecue®. From here (and due to the deep-rooted barbecue traditions in the United States) this new world was expanded and the brand began to launch barbecue products such as sauces, spices, wood smoking chips and others.

If you’re a Jack Daniel’s and a BBQ lover, you can now taste the best of both worlds in one go! Read on to find out how to add the whiskey’s distinctive flavour to your grills.

Wood Smoking Chips Jack Daniel's Whiskey Flavour

Many wonder what happens to Jack Daniel’s white oak barrels after they finish maturing (ageing process) the whiskey.
Well... some become trays for playing checkers or plant pots and others manage to give, to their followers, another taste of Jack Daniel’s and become wood smoking chips.

The wood smoking chips, made from the burnt barrels used for maturation – where, during this process the whiskey is pulled in and out of the wood, giving it its characteristic colour and flavour as a portion of the drink remains in the wood after the barrels are emptied – add the whiskey’s distinctive flavour to the food cooked on the barbecue.

These chips for use in any type of barbecue, 100% Jack Daniel’s whiskey and subtly sweet flavoured are ideal for beef, chicken and lamb.
They can also be tasted in tea or milk, like a cinnamon stick.

Instructions

  1. When using on the grill add two or three handfuls of wood chips ideally in a smoke box or make a box out of aluminium foil.
  2. Place one of these boxes on the grill or over the hottest coals until it starts to smoke.
  3. Once the chips start to smoke, place the food on a higher grill and the box underneath. Watch out for flare-ups.

Tip: for a more intense flavour place the chosen quantity of wood in water and leave to soak for 15 to 30 minutes (depending on the intensity of flavour desired).

Call your friends who are also whiskey and barbecue enthusiasts and offer a tasty grill! You’ll see that they will love it and be prepared for many barbecues at your place... because they won't anything else.
