Meet 5 (of many!) female designers present at In & Out Cooking

Since 1975, the United Nations has recognized March 8th as the International Women's Day, although already celebrated from the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays, this date praises and celebrates women's achievements for their emancipation and gender equality, but unfortunately still marks a continuous and current fight for social, labor and political rights.

Curiosity: Did you knowthat the In&Out Cooking team is mostly composed of women?

In our store, we proudly support several incredible and respected female designers by selling their creations. To celebrate this relevant date, in this article, we will present you to 5 (of many!) designers, recognizing their talent!

Miriam Mirri

Miriam Mirri was born in 1964 in Bologna, Italy, but currently lives and works in Milan. She studied design and communication, which led her to work for several renowned designers. In 2000, she decided to disengage and start her career as a freelancer. Miriam is known for collaborating with several companies and create a unique design of tools, household items, pet accessories, watches, furniture, etc.

Sakura Adachi

Sakura lives and works in Milan, although being born in 1977 in Japan. Her background is focused on Industrial Design and Joinery, with a design characterized by having both a conceptual and craft approach and taking advantage of the potential of all materials she uses. In 2008, she opened a design studio with her name and since that collaborates with several Italian and international companies creating everything from furniture to more utilitarian products. During her career, Sakura has received numerous awards, becoming a highly regarded designer.

Emma Silvestris

Emma Silvestris was born in Salerno, Italy, in 1962, but Bari is the city where she currently lives and works. Her education includes arts, foreign literature, and art history. For this reason, her early career was characterized by education and research. Since 1990 she has worked as a designer and is characterized by her eclecticism, using ancestral symbols and smooth geometric lines, giving precision and elegance to her design. Her creations range includes jewelry and household items.

Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo, Spain, in 1961. Her degree is in architecture and design, an area where she began her career as an assistant teacher. At the same time, she worked for design studios and did some work with friends in the architecture area, interiors, restaurants, among others. But it was in 2001 that Patricia decided to continue her solo career and open her studio (in Milan, where she currently lives) focused on product design, architecture, and installations. Some of her works are exhibited in several museums and she has already won several important awards.

Kristiina Lassus

Kristiina Lassus is Finnish (born in 1966), currently living and working in Milan, her education includes design management, product development, interior architecture, and furniture design. Before going to Italy (in 1997), Lassus worked for renowned architectural companies in Finland and Australia, but it was in 2003 that she founded her studio in Milan, where she offers several services related to design and consultancy. Besides, Kristiina creates handmade rugs of high quality, which are distinguished by their elegance. This designer and entrepreneur, throughout her career, has won several prestigious awards and has developed products for several companies.

In addition to these 5 designers, as a bonus, you can meet here the brilliant Marianne Brandt, a German artist who studied at the Bauhaus art school in Weimar and was the only woman working at the Bauhaus Metallwerkstatt.

It is amazing how all these designers managed to be independent, create their own identity in the world of design, and be worldwide recognized professionals.

We might continue to fight and celebrate March 8th, to have more and more examples like these and that equal opportunities become the rule and not the exception!
