“Santos Populares” Festivities at home

June is the month of "Santos Populares", with celebrations and festivals from north to south of the country. The main ones are "Santo António", "São João" and "São Pedro". These are parties full of entertainment that people wait for all year round. They go out to eat, drink and have fun in the streets and in the working-class districts.

This year, due to the situation we are experiencing, the "Santos Populares" festivals were cancelled and the marches, camps and weddings ("Santo António" weddings), were postponed to 2021. But this will not be a reason not to have your celebration of "Santos Populares" at home, with family and friends, and of course, with sardines!

First of all, it is essential to decorate your house, garden or terrace according to the theme! Lights, balloons, basil and even hammers are never too much when it comes to "Santos Populares" festivities, so use and abuse of them.

Secondly, but no less importantly, music is essential. It's time to exercise your memory and gather the great hits of Portuguese popular music in a playlist and enjoy the true spirit of these days. And of course, you can always play an hour of requested records with your friends!

Now that everything is set up to welcome our guests, we can move on to the most important part: food!
