10 games to play with your children on Children's Day

Playing is synonymous of exploring, inventing, learning, and just plain fun.

The 'rush' of everyday life doesn't always allow stopping and prepare different games to play with the children. Besides, planning a game that everyone likes is not always an easy task!

A good game has to be interactive and fun. Those who have young children know how challenging it can be to entertain them and keep their enthusiasm from the beginning to the end of an activity. Being a day absolutely dedicated to children, it is the perfect opportunity to give them the freedom to explore their individuality and expand their vivacity.

Running out of ideas for new games? We've compiled some ideas to make it an unforgettable Children's Day! Check out our suggestions and create memories for a lifetime.

1. Having a picnic

All kids love to have picnics. Ideally, do it outdoors, in a garden or a park, but if you do it at home, with a blanket spread out in the middle of the room, no problem: the kids will love having a different meal than usual. You can even choose the menu together. Check out these suggestions:

2. Disguise Party

Celebrate this special day with a costume party! You can decide on a theme (animals, princesses, professions, etc.) and each kid dresses accordingly, using whatever is available in the house. Put on music for dancing and create a backdrop with fabric, or select a corner of the house for a photo shoot with fun poses. This is the perfect opportunity for the little ones to let their imaginations run wild!

3. Disney movie marathon

If the weather is not good for playing outdoors, or you prefer to celebrate the day with something more peaceful, propose a movie session at home. Prepare a special snack, including pizza, cookies in different shapes, homemade popcorn, and natural juices. Gather comfort elements such as lights off, blankets and pillows, and make a list in advance of the movies you will see. The components for an incredible evening are in place!

4. Treasure Hunt

This is a game that never disappoints! It is suitable for all ages, depending on the difficulty level of the clues you create. Choose a 'treasure' and hide it in an inconspicuous place, but reachable by the little ones. Spread pieces of paper around the house with clues compatible with the ages of the participants, such as "At night, I like to rest my head on this object" for the child to look under the pillow of his bed, where the treasure or another clue may be. It's a real creative exercise for adults too!

5. Making art with recycled products

This is a game that requires imagination and conveys sustainability values. Go around the house, paying special attention to the kitchen, and collect some materials such as empty milk cartons, water bottles, cereal boxes, aluminum foil, lids, fabric, toilet paper rolls, etc. Put everything on a table, along with scissors, paints, glue, and markers and challenge the children to create whatever they want, to unleash their artistic talents!

6. Musical instruments for babies

Babies between 6 months and 2 years old are not yet aware of the celebration of this day, but they can (and should) celebrate too. In a small, empty plastic bottle, place corn or dried beans. Make sure it is tightly closed and that there is no possibility that the child can open the bottle, and offer it. The sound of the beans banging against each other and against the bottle will amuse the little ones!

7. Make a paper windmill

You need an A4 sheet of paper, scissors, pins, a pencil, and a paper or plastic straw. Make a square with the sheet, find the middle of the square by folding it in half diagonally, and mark the center point with the pencil. To make the windmill blades, cut the lines marked by the folds from each corner of the square, almost to the middle and to the same extent.

Join the ends so that they meet in the middle, without bending them, to obtain a curved effect. Place the pin in the middle to secure the ends and attach the straw to the pin, ensuring some distance between the two so that the mill can rotate. And that's it!

8. Paper boat race

This game involves making paper boats - preferably colored ones, and putting them in the water to see which one gets to the final destination first. You can use a bathtub, a large bowl, or a swimming pool. It requires skill to build and provides a good moment of concentration as well as excitement for victory. Kids love this kind of play!

9. Memory game

This activity aims to have fun and exercise memory. Select ten objects you have at home and place them on a table. You can play in two ways:

  • Cover the objects with a blanket and tell the children that after uncovering the table, they have 30s to memorize the objects on the table. When the time is up, cover it up again. Whoever can name the most objects wins.

  • Give the children 30s to memorize the order of the objects on the table. Tell them to close their eyes, and while doing so, remove one of the objects and ask them which object was removed, or change the arrangement of an object and ask which one has changed place.

10.  Stop game

For children who already know how to read and write, the Stop game is an excellent game to develop concentration, imagination, vocabulary, and writing. Define a set of categories, such as names, colors, animals, countries, flowers, objects, fruits, professions, and movies, among others. Good luck to everyone!

Take advantage of Children's Day to break the routine and do something different and fun for everyone. Above all, take this day to spend quality time with your children and contemplate how happy and healthy they are growing up. Happy Children's Day!
