Decorate your home for Carnival

This year, don't just take the magic of Carnival out onto the streets. Take it home with you!

Every year, Carnival is celebrated on a different day, varying according to national and local traditions. In Portugal, it's always celebrated on a Tuesday, precisely 47 days before Easter, which is also a moveable date. This year, Carnival is celebrated on 21st February.

What is the origin of Carnival?

This question has no conclusive answer. Carnival is celebrated mainly among populations connected to the Catholic religion. However, before the emergence of Christianism, this was a festivity prominent in the calendar of many pagan cultures, being essentially seen as a spiritual passage from darkness to light, from winter to summer.

Today, Carnival is one of the most popular festivals in the western world, particularly in Brazil, where major parades of several samba schools take place. In Portugal, this date is celebrated on a larger scale in regions such as Torres Vedras, Ovar and Macedo de Cavaleiros.

This is a party that gathers children and adults alike. On this day, clowns, superheroes, princesses and many other iconic personalities go to the streets to celebrate. There's fun, music, floats, parades and costumes of all kinds. And how about extending a bit of this revelry into your home?
