New Year means new colors highlighted by the Pantone Color Institute. But before we get to know them, it is important to understand the context of the “Pantone of the year” phenomenon.
It all started in 1963, when Lawrence Herbert, founder of Pantone, created a color identification, combination, and communication system, Pantone Matching System, which aimed to solve the problem of the different interpretations of the color spectrum by each person and, consequently, the colors reproduced in an unfaithful way. This system has revolutionized the way of working of professionals in so many areas, that nowadays it is considered standard worldwide.
After 37 years, in 2000, the concept of "Color of the year" emerged, with the color "15-4020 TCX: Cerulean", a light shade of blue described, by the institute, as being the "sky on a calm day".
Since then, through a hard work of research and observation of several factors, from fashion to the most important events for the evolution of humanity, the vast team of the Pantone Color Institute, at the end of each year, chooses a color that marks the trend of the following year and influences several sectors.
This year, with all that the world has gone through (and is still going through) with the covid-19 and the hope that 2021 promises, there was a great expectation to know in what color all this would be reflected. As it had already happened in 2015, the institute chose, through a brief presentation video, not one, but two colors to represent 2021: 13-0647 Illuminating and 17-5104 Ultimate Gray.
The Pantone Institute describes the color “13-0647 Illuminating” as being a “cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power” that transmits positivity and energy, so that we can face this new year.
The color “17-5104 Ultimate Gray” is described as a gray “emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation” and transmits stability and resilience, which is all we want after this difficult battle the world is facing right now.
“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute
Are you a fan of these shades and would you like to transform your home into an environment of hope, positivity, and resilience, to face this new year? So you can take some notes regarding the suggestions that In&Out cooking has to offer.
Mix of colors
If in 2021 we have not one, but two colors of the year, why not use and bet on products that combine both? The Pantone Institute did not choose gray and yellow by chance, once the combination of these two colors is one of the most harmonious that exists, don't you think?
One color
Do you like to see the two colors together, but not in the same product, or do you love one of the colors, but don't like the other so much? Bet on products that are completely yellow/gray, or that have one of these colors as dominant, with notes of white or materials such as cork or glass.
